Says she and her brother Sajid Khan struggled to arrange for his funeral
(Web Desk) - Farah Khan is often recognised as one of Bollywood’s most accomplished choreographers.
Her illustrious career spans more than three decades, during which she contributed her expertise to over 80 films, earning six Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award.
Apart from these, she has also helmed four films, with three of them becoming major box office hits.
However, despite her family’s film industry background, given that her father Kamran Khan was an actor, producer and director, Farah’s early life was not very affluent.
In a recent conversation with Maniesh Paul, Farah revealed that at the time of his passing, her father had only Rs 30 in his pocket.
She also recalled that she and her brother Sajid Khan struggled to arrange for his funeral.
“The night before, he had played taash (cards) and the only money he had in his pocket was the Rs 30 he had won from those games. Sajid also shared this story on Bigg Boss, explaining how we had to gather funds from various sources to arrange for our father’s funeral.
The irony, however, was the people who had come to play cards that night couldn’t play in the living room, so they moved to the terrace to continue playing,” she recalled.
Farah noted that while she was initially very spoiled and used to buy records daily to play on their gramophone and dance to the music, she, however, gradually observed her family’s financial downfall.
This, she said, led to the loss of various possessions, including the gramophone, from their home. Farah further explained, “At one point, our financial situation became so dire that we couldn’t even afford to repair the lock on our front door.
Hence, my mother resorted to placing a rock at the bottom to keep it closed.”
