Imran Khan approaches Islamabad High Court for specialised eye treatment at Shifa International

Imran Khan has petitioned Islamabad High Court for transfer to Shifa International Hospital, citing severe vision loss, secrecy in jail medical care, and exclusion of family and doctors.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was approached on Monday with a petition seeking the immediate transfer of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for specialised eye treatment.
The criminal miscellaneous application, filed by senior counsel Sardar Latif Khosa, alleges that prison authorities have been conducting medical examinations in secrecy, without informing Khan’s family, personal physicians, or legal team.
A similar plea had earlier been moved before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on February 25 after Khan underwent a government-arranged follow-up consultation for his eye condition.
According to the petition, the 73-year-old former prime minister, who has been imprisoned since August 2023 at Adiala Jail, has lost complete vision in one eye and retains only around 15 per cent vision in the other.
The application refers to a report submitted to the apex court by amicus curiae Barrister Salman Safdar, which noted that despite repeated complaints of blurred and hazardous vision, jail authorities allegedly failed to ensure timely and adequate medical intervention.
The plea raises concerns over a medical examination conducted inside Central Jail, Rawalpindi, on February 15, reportedly without prior notice to Khan’s family, personal doctors, or legal counsel. It further states that he was later shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on February 23 for additional procedures, again without allowing access to his personal physicians, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yousaf, or family members.
Earlier, the Supreme Court, through an order dated February 12, 2026, had adjourned related petitions sine die, directing that any grievance be first taken up before the high court where Khan’s appeal against his trial court conviction is pending.
