(WebDesk) – One of the greatest singers to have ever blessed the face of the Earth with his soothing vocals and impeccable melody, Mohammad Rafi Sahab was no short of a legend in the Music and Entertainment industry as he used his voice to make his way to the top. Rafi Sahab was second to none when it came to enchanting the audience with his beautifully rendered romantic melodies. Such was the power of his melodies that his songs and jingles would often make the listeners believe that they have gone through some grave heartbreak or that they are in love even when that was rarely the case.

The legend Mohammad Rafi was born on 24th December, 1924 in the small village of Kotla Sultan Singh in India. Rafi Sahab always had interested in singing and became a professional playback singer at a very young age. Mohammad Rafi was considered as an elite Indian playback singer and one of the most popular and successful singers the subcontinent had ever seen. Rafi Sahab was known mostly for his voice, versatility and range; his songs were varied from fast peppy numbers to patriotic songs, sad numbers to highly romantic songs, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans to classical songs.

Throughout his career, the legend recorded over a thousand Hindi songs and had the opportunity of lending his voice to huge Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachan, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra and Dev Anand amongst others.

He also received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, the Government of India honoured him with the coveted Padma Shri award as well.

Rafi Sahab left millions of his fans in tears when he breathed his last on 31st July 1980 in Mumbai, India.
