Om Puri walks out of live debate over anti-Pakistan rant

Dunya News

People from both sides don't want war as several of Muslim families are living in India, said Puri.

(Web Desk) - The veteran Indian actor Om Puri has come out in support of Pakistani artists and said that banning the actors would not give any fruitful results in the current strained situation.

Talking in a local news channel, Om Puri asked the critics to separate art and showbiz from politics.

He said that Pakistani artists are not working in India illegally and visit the state after getting proper visa. He advised the frustrated Indian newsmen to keep quiet on the matter as the government is handling it.

"When the government is taking an action, we all should stay quiet. It hardly matters if we send back the artists from Pakistan, who are working here, or let them stay. I have been to Pakistan six times and have met people from all strata," the 65-year-old actor said.

The actor tried to stop reporter’s unjustified questions and asked that “Do you want India-Pakistan enmity to turn like Israel and Palestine, and fight for ages?

He said that people from both sides don’t want war as several of Muslim families are living here in India and they don’t favor war with their cross-border families.

Om Puri, who has debuted in Pakistan’s biggest hit Actor In Law, gave shut up call to the journalist and said that Indian film industry purposely made movies to depict negative image of the neighbor.

Responding about Indian army officers, he said, “Who had asked the soldiers to join the army? Who told them to pick the weapons?”

Later, the actor walked out of live debate over anti-Pakistan rant.

It is not for the first time that Indian actor raised voices to back Pakistani stars as famous actor Salman Khan also came forward and staunchly opposed the move.

He had said that there is a difference between a terrorist and an artist.

He had pronounced that Pakistani artists are not terrorists as they arrive in India after the government issued them a permit and visa.

Salman Khan had also telephoned Raj Thackeray, the president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and appealed that ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Raees’ should be allowed to release peacefully in India.

Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) had passed a resolution that bars all Pakistani actors from carrying on with their business commitments in India until normalcy returns.
