KARACHI (Web Desk) - A 15-year-old student named Ayaan was seriously injured in Karachi, Pakistan after a police officer fired at him while he was riding a motorbike with his friend Awais.
According to reports, the police signaled them to stop, and when they got hold of Awais, Ayaan tried to turn his bike to escape but was shot by a policeman. He was rushed to the Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) for treatment, and the bullet hit the lower portion of his body, damaging his lower limb and lodging in his lungs.
The incident has prompted police high-ups to order an inquiry and suspend the Rizvia Society SHO Waqar Kaiser. The policeman involved in the shooting incident, identified as Safdar, has been detained and an inquiry committee has been set up by DIG-West to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and fix responsibility.
SSP-Central Maroof Usman visited the hospital to meet with the family of the wounded student and promised to initiate departmental and legal proceedings against the policemen involved in the incident. Awais, who was with Ayaan during the incident, narrated the ordeal and stated that the policemen resorted to firing from behind. He also claimed that some policemen in plain clothes continued to make a video of Ayaan while he was lying on the road, crying for help.
The SSP-Central has termed the incident regrettable and acknowledged the police's mistake. He assured the public that the negligence of the police would be brought to notice, and the treatment of the wounded boy was the responsibility of the police.
