Shahid Afridi part of committee overlooking PCB affairs

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday formulated a committee in the chairmanship of Najam Sethi that would be responsible for running the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The 14-member committee comprising former cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi, former women cricket team captain Sana Mir, Shafqat Rana, Nauman Butt, Haroon Rasheed, Shakeel Sheikh, Gul Zada, Gul Muhammad Kakar, Ayaz Butt, Mustafa Ramday, Azid Saeed, and Ch Arif Saeed will overlook the affairs including the revamping of the PCB act 2014 and nullifying the 2019 act.

The committee will overlook the affairs for four months.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the name of Najam Sethi as new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Mr Sethi will replace Ramiz Raja who was elected as the PCB chief in 2021 during the tenure of the PTI government. The development comes on the heels of speculations that Mr Raja would be removed from the top post. Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination sent a summary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to remove Ramiz Raja. The summary had also proposed removal of Asad Ali Khan as chairman of the Board of Directors. The ministry had recommended the names of Najam Sethi and Shakil Sheikh for the top posts in the PCB.

Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Najam Sethi amid speculations about the latter replacing Ramiz Raja the PCB chief.

Sources privy to the development said the premier had a luncheon with Mr Sethi in Lahore. During the meeting, PM Shehbaz said: “The PCB s constitution of 2014 should be restored. After its restoration, departmental sports will be revived."
