England pile mammoth 657 for Pakistan in first innings

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - The England cricket team piled up 657 runs in the first innings of the first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The English side had resumed their first innings on second day of the Test at 506 runs for the loss of four wickets. The batsmen played extremely well as in just 101 overs, at a run-rate of more than 6.5, they posted a mammoth total including four centuries. On a day of record, there were two of the most expensive overs in Test history and the most expensive figures for a debutant in Test history.

The four tons helped England reach a gigantic total. English batters Zak Crawley 122, Ben Ducket 107, Ollie Pope 108 and Harry Brook 153 were the four centurions while Joe Root failed to impress with the bat as he only scored 23 runs. Skipper Ben Stokes departed at 43 runs.

On the start of the second day, Pakistani bowlers grabbed two early wicket as young pacer Naseem Shah sent English captain Stokes back to the pavilion. After that they were able to add 157 runs to the board as Pakistani bowlers did not allow the late middle-order and tail of England to stay for long on the crease.

Debutant Zahid Mahmood clutched four wickets, Naseem was able to grab three wickets and Mohammad Ali two.
