ICC declares Ajmal's bowling action 'legal'

Dunya News

Ban on the bowling action of Ajmal was imposed on September 9, 2014.

CHENNAI (Dunya News/AP) – International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday has declared the re-modeled bowling action of Saeed Ajmal as “legal” and allowed him to continue with his new deliveries, Dunya News reported.

The bowling test was taken place in Chennai at Shri Ram Chandra Sports Medicine Centre Laboratory on January 24.

Bangladesh’s bowler Sohag Gazi has also got the good news of bowling once again as he was also suspended because of his suspicious action.

The ICC said Saturday that testing in India showed the elbow flexing during the delivery action of both bowlers was within the allowed 15-degrees level of tolerance.

International umpires will be given video and photos of both players  legal bowling actions, for comparison if either bowler comes under future suspicion of  chucking .

While talking to Dunya News, Saeed Ajmal showed his ecstasy and thanked ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for believing in him and assured to make himself fit while adopting his new deliveries.

Ajmal stated that Saqlain Mushtaq, Muhamad Akram and Mushtaq Ahmed encouraged him in every step to fight for lifting the ban on his bowling.

In a response to a question, he said that he is unfit for World Cup 2015 but will not resist if PCB management calls him to swing in ICC World Cup.

A ban on the bowling of Ajmal was imposed on September 9, 2014 when his new action was challenged to be illegal for all the deliveries during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka in August 2014. It was deemed as illegal after an assessment which found his elbow extension was at 42 degrees, well over the permissible limit of 15 degrees.

Now, the off-spinner has adopted five different deliveries in one over. First delivery is off-spin, ‘second’ has been considered to be an effective one, faster-one will be the third delivery, Ajmal has also taken carrom ball action as fourth delivery whereas seam up will be bowled on fifth ball of the over.

Saeed Ajmal had earlier cleared the unofficial bowling action and now an official permission from ICC has made him to re-appear in bowling line.

In a tweet, Saeed Ajmal thanked his fans and supporters while announcing his successful clearance in bowling action.
