Dunya News

PEPCO MD Rasool Khan Mehsood has said loadshedding would be minimised in the month of Ramazan.

In an interview with Dunya News special correspondent Zulfiqar Ali, the MD said there won’t be any blackouts for Sehar and Iftaar, while outages would also be minimised overall. Arrangements are being made in this regard, he added. WAPDA employees should continue to get free electricity as a final decision has not been made in this regard. He said WAPDA employees from grade-1 to grade-15 are given a total of 170 free units a month, with a total annual expense of up to Rs 2.5 billion. He said this decision was made after much deliberations at the time of establishing WAPDA, and it would be unjust to do away with the facility. The MD said that PEPCO would cease to exist as per terms of a contract with the IMF and the World Bank in favour of a new system. Rasool Khan termed the contract for procuring 35MW from Iran a big success of PEPCO. He said progress would be made on the contract for 1,000MW from Iran in July.
