BCCI denies one-time payment benefit to Azad too

Dunya News

Azad had on Monday raised the IPL controversy in the Lok Sabha.

After Kapil Dev and Azharuddin, the BCCI has decided not to give the benefit of one-time payment scheme for former cricketers to politician and ex-cricketer Kirti Azad. The decision has been taken a day after Azad s protest fast outside New Delhi s Ferozeshah Kotla ground over what he called financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League. Azad, who was supposed to get around 50 lakh through the scheme, expressed unhappiness over the way in which the IPl is being managed, following a series of controversies hitting the tournament. He had on Monday raised the IPL controversy in the Lok Sabha demanding a special audit into the conduct of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and other sports organizations. Azad said that the recent IPL controversies were adversely affecting India s image. He also demanded that the BCCI be brought under the ambit of the Right to Information Act.Earlier, The BCCI had excluded Kapil Dev as he had not accepted the amnesty offered by the BCCI following his involvement in the now-defunct ICL. Ex-cricketer and politician Azharuddin was banned for life in 2000 for match-fixing and hence his name was also not included by the BCCI.Reacting to the news, Azad said said If they don t give me money, can they take away my [1983] World Cup victory? I won t stop talking about the ills in the BCCI, he told a daily.
