Frustrated by lack of development, tribal elders demand accountability and separate funding channel
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Amid worsening law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tribal elders – dissatisfied with the provincial government's measures – arrived at the Prime Minister's House on Thursday to voice their concerns.
The delegation included current and former senators, MNAs, local leaders (Maliks), and other representatives from the tribal districts of Pakistan's northwestern province.
Also present at the meeting were JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor.
Federal ministers Rana Sanaullah, Ahsan Iqbal, Ikhtiar Wali, along with KP’s Inspector General, Chief Secretary, and officials from the FBR also participated in the session.
Sources reported that the tribal elders expressed frustration that, despite significant financial allocations, basic infrastructure such as schools and hospitals had not been developed in their areas.
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inquired about the total amount disbursed for tribal districts. Officials briefed him that Rs700 billion had been allocated so far.

The elders emphasised that while the funds come from the federal government, they are transferred to the provincial government's account, which lacks transparency.
They demanded a separate account be established specifically for the tribal districts to ensure proper utilisation.
PM Shehbaz assured the delegation that urgent steps are being taken to restore peace and improve governance in the region. He also proposed including tribal representation in a committee headed by Amir Muqam.
Participants concluded the meeting with a united resolve to fight terrorism and work collectively for the region’s stability.
