Experts discuss managing Pakistan's population growth

FAISALABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s rapidly growing population is straining resources, food security, and overall well-being.

The population is projected to double by 2050, posing serious threats to the nation’s future unless we tackle the issue now.

These views were expressed by the experts at a seminar held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). The seminar was organized by the Department of Rural Sociology of UAF in collaboration with the Population Welfare Department.

Dr Babar Shahbaz, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said Pakistan is facing serious problems due to its increasing population and shrinking resources.

He pointed out that despite having large populations, China, Japan and India are progressing through investment in skilled workforce. He said a skilled workforce is crucial for development.

Chairman Rural Sociology department, Dr. Izhar Ahmad said that women of Pakistan are the most malnourished population requiring measures to improve their health. He said serious challenges are emerging owing to the unbridled population.

The population of Pakistan was 35 million in 1951, which surged to 240 million now, he added.

CEO Health Dr. Asfandyar said that the health department is taking all possible measures to ensure facilities for the public.

District Population Officer Dr. Tayyaba Azam said that awareness seminars on population control are being conducted continuously among the young generation.

Dr. Naima Nawaz, Tariq Latif, Dr. Tayyaba Bashir, Abdul Rahim and others also spoke on the occasion.
