Cipher case: IHC puts FIA on notice on PTI chairman’s post-arrest bail application
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a plea moved by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman for his post-arrest bail in the cipher case.
Last week, a special court, established under the Official Secrets Act, had rejected the bail application of the former prime minister in the cipher case, after which he approached the high court for his post-arrest bail.
The plea filed by the PTI chairman through his lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar was fixed for hearing on Monday.
Taking up the plea for hearing, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq put the FIA on notice and directed that a response be submitted on the next hearing on Sept 25 (Monday).
The court, when Barrister Salman Safdar, the counsel for the PTI chairman, repeatedly requested for early hearing, remarked that the procedure was already there and the application would be fixed for hearing accordingly.
The court issued a notice to the FIA and adjourned the hearing till Sept 25.
The PTI chairman is currently on a judicial remand in jail in connection with the cipher case till Sept 26.
Both the PTI chairman and vice chairman had been booked by the FIA last month under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly misusing a certain classified document.
