Teachers' protest: Police resort to violence outside Sindh Assembly

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi police used water cannons and baton charged to disperse the teachers staging demonstration outside Sindh Assembly in favor of their demands.

According to details, school teachers from all over the Sindh province have been staging protest outside the Karachi Press Club for past several days, seeking their permanent contracts. Due to failed negotiation with the Education Department, protestors ran out of patience and marched towards the Sindh Assembly.

Karachi police used containers to block the route of the protestors. The police resorted to action and used water cannons and baton charged to scatter the teachers. The school teachers somehow managed to go past the obstacles and staged a sit-in outside the provincial assembly. Opposition members also joined the demonstration.

Police arrested more than 52 protesters and put an end to the ongoing protests outside the Sindh Assembly. However, teachers again held a demonstration outside Karachi Press Club. Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI condemned the Sindh government’s behavior.
