Pakistan would start getting information about bank accounts of its citizens from Switzerland within

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar on Wednesday said that an agreement has been signed between Pakistan and Switzerland on sharing of bank accounts details.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said that following the agreement with Switzerland, the government could get bank accounts details.

He said that the agreement was government’s another great achievement, adding that the previous governments deliberately avoided signing an MoU with Geneva.

The special assistant went on to say that Pakistan would start getting information about bank accounts of its citizens from Switzerland within two weeks time.

Shahzad Akbar said that former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s Swiss accounts have US$ 72 million, adding that following the JIT report in Omni case, the government could knock the doors of Swiss banks.

He said that former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif spent Rs250 million on his 25 private visits abroad on government expense and the case was referred to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which would investigate the misuse of authority.

On the occasion, the special assistant said that the government has decided to form an institute to eradicate poverty and Dr Ashfaq Hassan would head the department.
