Maulana Samiul Haq was assassinated in Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Condolences started pouring in after religious scholar and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq was assassinated in a targeted attack in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the martyrdom of Maulana Samiul Haq.

In a statement from Beijing, where he is currently on visit to China, the Prime Minister directed to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. The prime minister said that Haq was a great scholar of Islam.

Chief of Army Staff has strongly condemned the assassination of renowned religious scholar and political leader Moulana Sami ul Haq. He expressed grief and condolences to the bereaved family.

President Dr Arif Alvi expressed sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of Maulana Samiul Haq. Condemning this tragic incident, he expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. The President paid tributes to Maulana Samiul Haq s religious, social and political services.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar also condemned the assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq and sought report from the Inspector General of Punjab police.

Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has also condemned the assassination. He said that Maulana Samiul Haq s political and religious services will be remembered.

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ul-Rehman condemned the killing of Sami saying "I myself was a student of Darul Haqqani for eight years. I extend my condolences to his relatives," Rehman said.

Former Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in his Tweet condemned the killing saying, "Terrible news - Assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq is very tragic - May Allah Bless his soul Ameen!."

Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari said the brutal murder of Maulana Samiul Haq was “utterly condemnable.”

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic assassination of #MaulanaSamiulHaq. Pakistan has lost an important religious and political figure. The killers and their masterminds must be arrested forthwith.”

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid in her tweet said, “Stunned at the cold blooded murder of #MaulanaSamiulHaq May Allah grant him the highest state in Jannah. The murderers will and must be brought to justice. Extremely devastating.”
