ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A senior civil judge Friday sent former senator Faisal Raza Abidi to Adiala jail on judicial remand over his diatribe against superior judiciary.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced Abidi before Senior Civil Judge Amir Aziz and sought his three-day physical remand in order to complete its investigation into the case.

Abidi’s counsel maintained that his client was not a terrorist but a former senator, engineer and a respectable citizen. Three cases were registered against Faisal Raza over a single allegation, he added.

The judge after hearing the arguments sent Abidi to Adiala jail on judicial remand.

On October 10, the former senator was detained after he appeared before the Supreme Court in a case registered under section 780-A involving abetment, terrorism charges on complaint of assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Shaukat Abbasi.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had also rejected Faisal Raza Abidi’s plea to dismiss the contempt of court case lodged against him for allegedly ridiculing Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and anti-judiciary statements on media.
