Shehbaz asks supporters to reach court in show of solidarity with Nawaz

The PML-N president called on supporters to assemble outside the court at 8:45am on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday called on his supporters to reach the accountability court holding the trial of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

The PML-N president would also visit the court to show solidarity with his brother on August 15. He would then leave for the parliament building to participate in the election of speaker and deputy speaker.

Shehbaz, who has announced to wear black armbands, asked the PML-N supporters to assemble outside the court at 8:45am on Wednesday.

He also expressed indignation over bringing ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to the accountability court in an armoured vehicle, which entered the premises from the rear entrance of the judicial complex.

The PML-N perceived the treatment as unjust and called on authorities to not “disrespect” a former premier who had “served country immensely”.

“Don’t mortify former premier as he has served the masses. Nawaz Sharif eliminated power outages and made Pakistan an atomic power.”


Hearing of Al-Azizia, Flagship references adjourned till Aug 15


Nawaz Sharif was produced before the corruption court Monday in Al-Azizia Steel Mill and Flagship Investment references.

Jail authorities brought Sharif to the NAB court in armoured vehicle and entered from the rear entrance of the judicial complex. As many as 200 personnel were deployed around the accountability court.

NAB court judge Arshad Malik heard the case instead of Muhammad Bashir after Islamabad High Court (IHC) two-member bench approved Nawaz Sharif’s plea for transferring Al-Azizia Steel Mill and Flagship Investment references to other court.

During the hearing, NAB prosecution team and Joint Invetigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia appeared before the court.

The court while adjourning the proceedings till August 15 has summoned Nawaz, Zia and investigating officer Mehboob Alam on next hearing.

Authorities banned the entry of PML-N leaders Asif Kirmani, Pervez Raheed, Barrister Zafarullah and media personnel in the judicial complex.

In Avenfield reference, the supremo was awarded 11-year jail sentence while his political heir-apparent Maryam Nawaz has been awarded seven-year jail sentence and son-in-law Capt (rtd) Safdar one-year.
