Replug: Timeline - 'What is Avenfield Reference'
The case is pertaining to the Park Lane apartments.
(Web Desk) - The accountability court announced verdict of Avenfield reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against former Prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family in line with the Supreme Court verdict in Panama Papers case.
An accountability court on Friday July 06, 2018 jailed former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar.
Ex PM Nawaz Sharif has been awarded sentence for ten years with 8 million Pounds fine and confiscation of London properties whereas daughter Maryam Nawaz is sentenced for seven years and 2 million Pounds fine. Sharif s son-in-law Capt Safder is also given a year sentence.
The court announced verdict in the absence of Sharif and family.
The accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir had reserved the judgement after proceedings of Avenfield reference against Sharif family were completed.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Thursday submitted a plea in the accountability court requesting to defer verdict in Avenfield reference for few days citing Kulsoom Nawaz’s critical health.Though, the accountability court on Friday dismissed the petition of Sharif family requesting to defer the verdict in the Avenfield reference case for seven days
The Pakistan Supreme Court, on July 28, had disqualified Sharif from holding the office of the prime minister and asked the National Accountability Bureau to file references against the Sharif family in connection with corruption cases against them.
On the orders of the apex Court, a JIT was formed last year to probe the allegations on the Sharif family.

AVENFIELD REFERNCE
The Avenfield reference is one of three corruption references filed against the deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his three children, son-in-law and former finance minister Ishaq Dar in compliance with the Supreme Court verdict in the Panama Papers case last year.
The case is pertaining to the Park Lane apartments (flats 16, 16-A, 17, and 17-A Avenfield House, Park Lane, London, United Kingdom) of the Sharif family and comprises Nawaz Sharif, his three children, and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar as the accused.
Prosecution maintains that Sharif family obtained the flats through illegal sources however the charges have been denied by the accused. The family insists that the four flats are the ownership of Nawaz’s sons.
Nawaz Sharif appeared before NAB 107 times whereas Maryam appears for 80. Sharifs in Avenfield case were interogated by more than 100 questions.
