Summary Pakistan and Afghanistan are hopeful for positive outcome of the four-nation talks.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Representatives from Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and United States are scheduled to meet in Islamabad today (Monday) to discuss a road map aimed at reviving the Afghan peace process.
Pakistan will be represented by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry while Afghanistan will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Hikmat Karzai. China and United States of America’s (USA) Special Representatives for Pakistan and Afghanistan will be attending the meeting for their respective countries.
The talks were agreed upon during a visit to Kabul last month by Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif.
Today’s talks do not include the Taliban, who have been battling the US-backed government for nearly 15 years and have recently stepped up their attacks.
A previous peace process last year was collapsed last summer after Afghanistan announced that Mullah Mohammad Omar, founder and leader of the Taliban, had died more than two years ago.
