PML-N-backed candidates clinched two seats in by-polls held on Thursday for the three National Assembly seats NA-68 Sargodha-V, NA-100 Gujranwala-VIII and NA-155 Lodhran-II. According to unofficial results, PML-N candidates are leading in two constituencies. PML-Ns Shafqat Hayat leads with 90253 votes in NA-68 Sargodha, PML-N-backed independent candidate Akhtar Kanju leads in NA-155 Lodhran-II with 78802 votes and PPP candidate Ch. Tassaduq was ahead in NA-100 Gujranwala-VIII with 69154 votes. The by-elections were taking place for the seats vacated by PML-N and PPP candidates in Sargodha and Lodhran, respectively, over fake degrees. In Gujranwala, an independent MNA who later joined the PML-N also vacated his seat over the fake degree issue. In Sargodha, Sardar Shafqat Baloch was the PML-Ns candidate and the PPP was supporting independent candidate Mian Mazhar Qureshi. In Lodhran, Hayatullah Tarin was the PPPs candidate and the PML-N was supporting independent candidate Akhtar Kanju. For the Gujranwala constituency, Azhar Qayyum Nehra was the PML-Ns candidate and the PPP had awarded its ticket to Chaudhry Tasaduq Masood.
