Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the recently passed Kerry-Lugar-Berman bill on economic aid for Pakistan is a sincere US effort to help Pakistanis improve their lives. The United States is stepping up its efforts to engage directly with the Pakistani people through educational and cultural exchanges, English language programmes, scholarships, and professional linkages, she added. The US has no intention to micromanage Pakistan through the recently passed Kerry-Lugar aid legislation, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said after meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington. Qureshi told the critics of the $7.5 billion five-year assistance package that the elected government will never allow any compromise on Pakistans sovereignty and that Washington does not intend to trample on the its allys sovereignty.
