UN to keep vital offices open in Pakistan

The United Nations Pakistan Resident Coordinator Fikret Akcura Tuesday said that United Nations was not going to close its bureaus across Pakistan, mentioning that some offices had temporarily been closed following the deadly blast in Islamabad, however, important offices will remain open uninterruptedly. He said that the strategy on the issue would be outlined on Thursday. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Fikret Akcura said that UN missions staff would continue official work from their homes. He termed the blast in UN World Food Programs office as security lapse, adding that a new security plan would be outlined after receiving blast probe report from Interior Ministry. On shifting of UN offices to Diplomatic Enclave, the UN official said that UN offices around the world were situated in residential areas. Talking on the occasion, Under-Secretary-General of UN Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy said that the UN had requested for more troops from Pakistan to become part of Peacekeeping operations.
