Summary

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has ordered the government to issue a notification fixing the sugar prices at Rs40/kg across the country, Dunya News Friday reported. The SC also summoned the Acting Chairman of Sugar Mill Association for submitting the bogus documents in the court. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary summoned the acting chairman Javed Kayani and reprimanded him for presenting bogus documents. The bench was hearing a petition filed by the federal and provincial governments on the sugar issue. The court forwarded the issue to the Security Exchange Commission (SEC) for further action. Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Sardar Latif Khosa on behalf of the Prime Minister submitted that the government had high reverence for the judiciary. Earlier on Thursday, the SC had directed to sell sugar at Rs 40 per kg till the final verdict. The SC rejected the petition filed by sugar dealers saying that the association does not have the right to challenge LHC verdict as it was not registered.
