ECP withholds results of one national, two provincial constituencies
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has withheld results in three constituencies – one national and two provincial – due to incidents of snatching of polling material at various polling stations during the general elections held on Feb 8.
The top electoral body said re-polling will be held at certain polling stations of NA-88 Khushab, PS-18 Ghotki and PK-90 Kohat on February 15 (Monday).
It said material of 26 polling stations was set on fire by an enraged crowd at the office of the returning officer in NA-88 Khushab.
PML-N, independents prove their mettle in provinces
(Web Desk) - The results of the Feb 8 election have almost been completed.
A tough battle is visible between the independent candidates and the PML-N on the National Assembly seats.
As for the provinces, the PML-N and independent candidates are involved in a fierce battle in Punjab. In Sindh, the PPP has emerged victorious and successfully guarded its turf.
Independent candidates have achieved massive successes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Balochistan, the PPP has won more seats followed closely by the JUI, the PML-N and independents.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The head of Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said that a major party was deprived of its election symbol and it created problems for the illiterate voters.
He was briefing the journalists in Islamabad after observing the General Elections of Pakistan held on Feb 8.
“Our representatives observed the General Elections of 2024 and we visited polling stations in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad and Hyderabad,” Dr Goodluck said in his briefing.
Rehana Dar challenges Khwaja Asif's victory in NA-71
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Rehana Dar, PTI-backed, independent candidate has challenged the victory of his opponent Khawaja Asif and results of Form-47 from National Assembly constituency NA-71 Sialkot.
The mother of Usman Dar, has filed the petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) to challenge the polls result of NA-71. Rehana Dar has made the Returning Officer, Election Commission and Khawaja Asif party in the petition.
ECP's delay in announcing results raised questions about polls outcome credibility: Fafen
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Approximately 60 million voters went to the polls in Pakistan on February 8, to elect their representatives in 265 National Assembly and 590 provincial assembly constituencies in one of the country’s most competitive political contests, said Fafen in a report released on Saturday.
Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen), in its report said, the elections followed two tumultuous years of political upheaval, discord and polarization, which left behind a debris of constitutional confusions, judicial misadventures, communal stress, economic downturn and growing public distrust in public and electoral institutions – issues that must be taken up by the future government as its top priorities.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Saturday congratulated the nation, government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on holding the general elections 2024 successfully, said military’s media wing.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted the army chief as saying that he congratulated the political parties and all winning candidates.
US, UK and EU urge probe, express concerns over elections
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States, Britain and the European Union on Friday separately expressed concerns about Pakistan's electoral process in the wake of a vote on Thursday and urged a probe into reported irregularities.
The main battle was between former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's party and candidates backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Both declared victory separately.
Elections were held for 265 seats in the National Assembly and a political party needs 133 seats for a simple majority.
Firdous Ashiq Awan booked for roughing up cop at polling station
(Web Desk) – Sialkot Sadar police have registered a case against Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan for allegedly slapping a policeman deputed at a polling station.
A video went viral on social media showing the IPP leader thrashing and roughing up a policeman appointed at Government High School Gana Kalan of Sialkot.
According to the police, Firdous Ashiq Awan had slapped a policeman in Sialkot on Thursday – an election day.
A case has been registered against Firdous Ashiq Awan for slapping a policeman by Sadar Sialkot police on the complaint of ASI Amjad.
According to the FIR, a police official was on election duty at Government High School Gana Kalan in Sialkot NA 70 when Firdous Ashiq Awan misbehaved with the policeman and slapped him.
No plan to form govt with PMLN or PPP: Gohar
(Web Desk) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Gohar Ali Khan has said the PTI has neither contacted any political party nor it has any plan to form an allied government.
There is no intention to form a government along with PPP or PMLN, Barrister Gohar said in a statement.
He said there is no contact with the Pakistan Peoples Party and the PMLN, adding there is no plan to form a government with them.

According to MQMP sources, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui will have a meeting with Shehbaz Sharif soon and discuss political situation in the country.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP) convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said his party will not let democracy derail in the country and help form a government.
