Veteran actor Shakeel laid to rest in Karachi

Shakeel received prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz award in 2015

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Senior actor Shakeel, who had died last night after a protracted illness at the age of 85, was laid to rest on Friday in the graveyard of Defence Phase 8.

The Sultan Mosque in Defence was the location of the funeral prayers. Other significant figures, including Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, were present to show their respect to the legendary actor.

His performances in enduring dramas like "Uncle Urfi" and "Noor-e-Zindagi" are remembered fondly.

Shakeel received the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz award in 2015 for his unwavering devotion to the entertainment industry.

The "Colony 52" star moved to Karachi with his family from India. He was born in Bhopal, British India, as Yusuf Kamal.

He attended a French missionary school in India as well as an English medium school in British India for his primary schooling.

Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman condoled the death of Shakeel. "Shakeel provided vital contributions in the entertainment industry. May Allah raise the ranks of the deceased and grant patience to the bereaved", Rehman maintained.

Actress Bushra Ansari expressed her condolences for Shakeel's passing. She continued, "All his co-stars, including me, are saddened."

Separately, noted actress Saba Qamar said, "I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Shakeel Sahab. His contribution to the industry will always be remembered. Rest in Peace Sir."
