Ali Zafar opens up about harassment allegations by Meesha Shafi
The singer/actor said he has sought professional remedies.
(Web Desk) - Singer/actor Ali Zafar has, for the first time, addressed allegations of sexual harassment levied against him by Meesha Shafi, saying he would not pursue the issue on any social media platform.
"People will find out in time. With time everything comes out and the truth unveils itself,” Ali Zafar told Haroon Zafar of BBC Asia Network.
“I, since day one, said that I will not fight this over social media as I will take the professional course and I have sought professional remedies and the due course of law shall give justice in time."
Denying that he could’ve intentionally or unintentionally harmed or affected Meesha, the Channo singer said Meesha was a very close family friend.
“No. Never could that have happened because if it did she was a very close family friend, she used to come to our house, she was my wife’s friend.
"We had a concert together, and the jam that she’s talking about, that has a video and there were 10 witnesses and two witnesses out of that jam were women. They came out in the open and said that ‘we were there how could she event think and say this?’
“That is why I was more hurt, because I’ve been working towards women’s empowerment.”
Meesha Shafi had, in April, tweeted she was sexually harassed by colleague and fellow singer, Ali Zafar. “If this can happen to someone like me, an established artist, then it can happen to any young woman hoping to break into the industry and that concerns me gravely,” she said.
The singer/actor categorically denied the allegations levelled against him and announced to take legal action.
Zafar in his official statement said he "is the father of a young girl and a young boy, a husband to a wife and a son to a mother. I am a man that has stood up for myself, my family, my colleagues and friends countless times in the face of slander, defamation and general unkindness.”
