Burj Khalifa lights up to celebrate Pakistan's Independence Day

Pakistani expats, including children, gathered to witness country’s flag being raised

DUBAI (Dunya News) - Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, was lit up with the Pakistani national flag on Wednesday to celebrate country’s Independence Day. 

A large number of Pakistani expats, including children, gathered to witness their country’s flag being raised. They expressed their love for the motherland and prayed for the prosperity of the country. 

Earlier in the day, a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai to celebrate the 77th Independence Day of Pakistan. The event was attended by many Pakistani community members and families. 

Welcoming the guests, Hussain Muhammad, Consul General, congratulated Pakistani community living in the UAE.

“Pakistan appeared on world map as the largest Muslim state on 14th August 1947 under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Our forefathers rendered countless sacrifices for the creation of an independent state where we can live with freedom, dignity, and self-respect”, a press release quoted the Consul General as having said. 

TRADITIONAL FERVOUR IN PAKISTAN 

Pakistan on Wednesday celebrated the 77th Independence Day with traditional zeal and enthusiasm through a wide range of festivities to highlight the struggle of national heroes to acquire a separate homeland. 

The day dawned with thirty-one gun salutes in the federal capital and twenty-one in the provincial headquarters. Prayers were offered for Pakistan’s security and progress and the people’s well-being.

The national flag was hoisted at all important public and private buildings. 

Public and private buildings as well as streets and markets were profusely illuminated. National flags, buntings, portraits of founding fathers, posters and banners were also seen everywhere as part of the celebrations. 

An impressive change of guard ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. A smartly turned-out contingent of the cadets of the Pakistan Naval Academy and sailors clad in ceremonial dresses assumed guard duties at Mazar-e-Quaid with enthusiasm, traditional spirit, and military customs.
