Senate body summons FBR over registration of mobile phones at airports

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology on Wednesday took notice of issue of registration of mobile phones at the airport and summoned Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in the next meeting.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology was held in Islamabad with Committee chairman Senator Robina Khalid in chair.
During the meeting, Senator Ateeq Sheikh said that people were being disturbed in the name of registration of mobile phones at the airport and asked if the FBR had generated any revenue.
He asked how the tax was being imposed when no policy has been prepared for second hand mobiles.
Senator Kalsoom Parveen said that the FBR should be summoned on matters pertaining to mobile phone registration and tax.
The committee chairman said that the mobile phone is a need and not a luxury item.
