18 suspected terrorists arrested in Khyber Agency, currencies worth Rs 60 mln recovered
Terrorists were using these funds to buy weapons from Afghanistan, sources told.
KHYBER AGENCY (Web Desk) – In a major crackdown on terror-funding activities, security forces have arrested eighteen suspected terrorists and recovered local and foreign currencies worth sixty million rupees during search operation in the Khyber tribal region on Saturday morning, Dunya News reported.
Crackdown on terror-funding is part of the National Action Plan (NAP) that was introduced after the December 16 killing of 132 schoolchildren by Taliban militants in Peshawar.
The search operation was conducted in Landi Kotal and adjoirning areas of the Khyber Agency. Local and foreign currencies (US Dollar, Saudi Riyal, Dirham and Pakistani Rupee) worth more than Rs 60 million were recovered from possession of the arrested terrorists.

Heavy weapons and explosives were also recovered during the operation.

According to sources, arrested terrorists were using these funds to buy weapons from Afghanistan.
Khyber is one of seven autonomous tribal districts along Pakistan s mountainous western border which became a hotbed of militants following the US-led invasion of neighbouring Afghanistan in 2001.
A military operation launched in October 2014 in Khyber Agency was completed in July this year. Over 500 militants were killed and more than 400 surrendered in the operation that was launched in two phases -- Operation Khyber-1 and Operation Khyber-2.
Action in Khyber Agency was launched four months after a similar operation began in North Waziristan district, triggered by a bloody Taliban attack on Karachi airport that sank faltering peace talks.
The army is now eyeing the completion of offensive "Operation Zarb-e-Azb" in North Waziristan.
