India fails fourth time in Nirbhay cruise missile test

Dunya News

The cruise missile is being tested from March 2013 and is yet to become a successful experiment

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Indian nuclear capable Nirbhay cruise missile test failed for the fourth time on Wednesday to achieve desired results.

The land attack missile is supposed to be able to carry nuclear weapons at a strike range of 1,000 kms. The cruise missile is being tested from March 2013 and is yet to become successful experiment.

The timeline of these experiments suggest that the first test was a complete failure as well as the third and the most recent fourth. However, the second test was called as a  partial success  as the cruise missile achieved some of its designed results, if not all.

In actual, the Nirbhay cruise missile had to be destroyed in sky but it deviated from the supposed pathway soon after the launch from one of India’s launching pads, the Integrated Test Range at Balasore.

India already owns a BrahMos missile which it developed with cooperation from Russia. However, its strike range is only 290kms.

The missile system of Nirbhay is designed to be versatile. It could be fired from both land and water as well as air. According to reports, the Land Attack Cruise Missiles (LACMs) were formed to counter Pakistan s Babur LACM.
