The ex-PM hoped that the tribal people will now get their legal and democratic rights after reforms

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Nawaz Sharif congratulated the people of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on the constitutional reforms passed by National Assembly.

The ex-PM hoped that the tribal people will now get their legal and democratic rights after reforms. He lauded the move to merge FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by passing the bill to extend the powers of Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court.

“Congratulations to the tribal people for attaining their constitutional, legal and democratic rights,” he said stressing that the basic demand of the people of FATA from the constitutional of Pakistan has now been fulfilled.

He vowed to eliminate the deprivations of FATA people by consolidating their foundations. The PML-N head said, “Nawaz Sharif will not accept injustice with any part of the country.”

Meanwhile, according to APP, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also felicitated the nation on unanimous passage of a bill in the National Assembly to extend jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and the Peshawar High Court to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

In a message, he said the extension of jurisdiction of superior courts to the FATA would be a first step in the tribal areas reforms. Its passage by the National Assembly was a historic measure for tribesmen and it could also help repeal the decades old Frontier Crimes Regulations, PM office media wing in a press release quoted the prime minister as saying.

Congratulating the residents of FATA, the prime minister observed that it was a day of great omen as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government had secured their rights which had been denied in the last seventy years.

The passage of the bill would also enable the tribesmen to enter into the national mainstream, further strengthening Pakistan, he added.
