PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has placed a ban on the inclusion of words Fata and Pata in official documents and paperworks.

The notification has been sent to chief secretary, political administration and divisional commissioners.

The parliament, in May, passed legislation to merge the country’s tribal regions along the Afghan border with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a key step to ending the region’s much-criticised colonial era governance system.

The words Fata (Federally Administrated Tribal Areas) and Pata (Provincially Administrated Tribal Areas) were abolished from the section-2 of Article-1, Article-62 and Article-155 of the Constitution as NA adopted 31st constitutional amendment, 2018.

The seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National assembly have been increased from 48 to 60 after the merger of Fata. The seats for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been increased to 147 from the current 126 after its merger with Fata.
