ECP bars PTI, PML-N from holding rallies in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has stopped Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from holding rallies at Dhobi Ghat Ground in Faisalabad.

The parties have ardently stepped in the political ground for contesting in Punjab and Sindh local bodies election but the ECP officials have barred PTI and PML-N from conducting public gathering at Dhobi Ghat, terming it against the electoral rules and regulations.

A complete summary has also been forwarded to District Coordination Officer (DCO) from District Returning Offcier Muhammad Razzaq, stating that only corner meetings can be held for LB polls.

On the other hand, DCO assured to follow the directives of ECP and vowed to take stern action against the violators.

Earlier, PTI was all set to hold rally at Dhobi Ghat Ground on October 28 while Sher Ali of PML-N’s mayor group had also decided to summon supporters at the same venue on October 29.

Personnel of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while reviewing its earlier proposed schedule decided to hold first phase of local bodies (LB) polls in Punjab on October 3. The electoral exercise will be held in 12 districts of the Punjab.

Polling for the second phase will be arranged on November 19 this year in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Attock and Jhelum districts.

Moreover, the third phase will commence on December 5 in Lyyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhawalpur, Rajan Pur, Rahim yar Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi, Muzaffar Garh, Narowal, Jhang and Khoshab. Various religious parties had requested change in the date since Imam Hussain’s (RA) ‘Chehlum’ is going to be held on December 3.
