CT2017: Pakistan announce 12 players for South Africa game

Dunya News

Pakistan and South Africa will go head to head in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on June 7

BIRMINGHAM (Dunya News) – Pakistan has announced its 12-member team on Tuesday which will play against South Africa in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on June 7.

Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, Coach Mickey Arthur and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed have collectively decided to drop Ahmed Shehzad and Wahab Riaz from the side. Also, decision to include leggie Shadab Khan will be taken prior to match, considering the weather and pitch conditions.

Fakhar Zaman and Junaid Khan have been added in the 12-member team against South Africa. Junaid Khan will play in the place of Wahab Riaz who not only performed poorly in India match but also received ankle injury and was suggested one-week rest by the doctors.

Green shirts have zero points on the scoreboard after the dreadful defeat against India. No doubt, the pride will be at stake while facing the mighty Proteas. Left-arm pacer Junaid Khan and batsman Fakhar Zaman will finally get a chance to prove their mettle, as a result of these changes.

Azhar Ali will be retained as the opener, after scoring 50 of 65 balls against India. He will be accompanied with young Fakhar Zaman who impressed the critics while playing for Lahore Qalandars in PSL. All-rounder Imad Wasim is also doubtful to play in the 11. He could be replaced with Bangladesh warm-up match fame Fahim Ashraf.

While talking to media, skipper Sarfraz Ahmed said it was his experiment to open the bowling with Imad Wasim. “We lost against India due to technical errors,” he admitted. He also expressed hope to make a comeback in the mini World Cup.
