TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iran has reportedly warned that it could target electricity infrastructure in Gulf countries if the United States launches attacks on Iranian power plants and energy facilities, according to media reports citing regional officials.
According to an international news agency, two Gulf officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tehran had conveyed messages to several Gulf capitals warning that regional power grids and critical infrastructure could become targets in the event of a US military strike. Iran has not officially commented on the reports.
A regional official also confirmed that warning messages had been delivered to Gulf states. According to the reports, Iran allegedly shared a list of potential targets that could be struck in retaliation, although no details of those locations were disclosed.
AFP reported that the alleged warnings have raised concerns among Gulf countries, whose economies, oil exports, desalination plants, telecommunications networks and other essential services depend heavily on reliable electricity infrastructure.
Neither the United States nor Iran has officially confirmed or denied the reported warnings.
The reports follow remarks made last week by US President Donald Trump, who warned that Washington could launch large-scale strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure if negotiations failed. He later said the planned action had been postponed at the request of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to allow diplomatic efforts to continue.
Meanwhile, diplomatic contacts involving the United States, Iran, Oman, Qatar and other regional countries are continuing in an effort to reduce tensions and reinforce the ceasefire. Sources say progress has been made toward a possible agreement, although differences remain on several key issues.
