WASHINGTON (Agencies) - The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) says its forces have launched “additional self-defence strikes” against “multiple targets in Iran”.

CENTCOM said that the strikes were carried out at Trump’s direction and that they were “in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression”.

Iranian state media is now reporting an explosion in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas. Iran’s IRNA outlet is reporting that explosions heard in Qeshm and Hengam were “caused by projectiles… all of which are of a military nature”.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier said the country will “stand firm” and denounced US threats to target Iranian infrastructure.

IRAN WILL ‘NEVER SUBMIT TO PRESSURE OR COERCION’: UN ENVOY

Iran’s ambassador to the UN says “no sustainable deal can be reached through threats, intimidation or the use of force”.

“The president of the United States should refrain from his recurring threats against Iran, including his renewed threat of force made today,” Amir Saeid Iravani said during a meeting at the UN Security Council.

“Iran has never negotiated under threats and pressure, and will never submit to pressure or coercion,” said Iravani, adding that the US “should have learned by now that the threats and military intimidation are counterproductive”.

“If Washington is genuinely interested in a diplomatic solution, it must abandon the language of threats and engage with Iran on the basis of mutual respect, sovereign equality and full adherence to international law.”
