Asim Iftikhar warns Israeli occupation could undermine peace framework
NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has said that any plan to take over Gaza would be tantamount to an attack on the two-state solution.
Speaking to the media ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, he stressed that Israel is violating international laws in Gaza.
The envoy underlined that Pakistan has consistently opposed Israeli actions and stands firmly against any measures that undermine Palestinian rights. He stated that the future of Palestinians can only be determined by the Palestinian people themselves, and no one else can decide their governance or future.
Call for Palestinian autonomy
Asim Iftikhar warned that any attempt to separate Gaza from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories would directly undermine the two-state concept. He reiterated that the governance and destiny of Palestine should remain in the hands of its own people.
He emphasised that external decisions on Palestine’s future not only violate international norms but also derail the globally endorsed framework for lasting peace in the region.
The Pakistani envoy’s remarks came as the UN Security Council convened to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. His statements reflected growing concerns that unilateral moves to alter Gaza’s political and territorial status could deal a serious blow to ongoing efforts for a two-state solution.
