(Reuters) – Nearly 10,000 residents have been relocated after flash floods triggered by torrential rain killed 13 people and left 30 missing in the northwestern China province of Gansu, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Monday.

Images on CCTV showed destroyed homes and roads, while emergency search and rescue efforts continue.

Torrential downpours began around 6 pm (1000 GMT) on Thursday and unleashed flash floods in Gansu province's Yuzhong, stranding some 4,000 people, according to CCTV.

China's President Xi Jinping ordered "all-out" rescue efforts on Friday.

Record rainfall has lashed China's north and south in recent weeks in what meteorologists describe as extreme weather events linked to climate change.
