(Web Desk) – Human rights abuses in the Indian occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir (IoK) are vital ongoing issue that cannot be resolved so far by the United Nations and other international organizations. The abuses range from mass killings, enforced disappearances, torture, rape and sexual abuse to political repression and suppression of freedom of speech.

The Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Border Security Personnel (BSF) have been violating the fundamental human rights since the separation of Indo-Pak.

Apart from the abuses of other human rights, New Delhi cannot endure the Kashmiri customs and culture as Indian government has banned the Kashmir’s traditional attire ‘Pheran’ by the school education department in one of its offices has elicited sharp reactions from people.

The phiran is a loose upper garment loosely gathered at the sleeves which tend to be wide, made of either wool or jamewar which is a mixture of wool and cotton, with no side slits. Pheran worn over the years to brave the chilling temperatures of winter, has been a great leveler of Kashmir society.

A tea house, chaijaai, launced a competition on its instagram account with a hashtag Pheran (#pheran).

Rohi Naaz, who set trend, said " Pheran is not a just dress for us but also a part of our history and culture."

"Winter-wear without the pheran is incomplete, Syed Bilal posted on social media site Instagram.

Former puppet Kashmiri Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah also tweeted jumping down Delhi administration s throat that I failed to understand why pherans should be banned! This was a regressive order that made no sense at all. Pherans are a very practical way of keeping warm during the cold winter aside from being part of our identity. This order should be withdrawn.
