Miliband criticizes US-led strategy in Afghanistan
David Miliband has strongly criticized the US-led strategy in Afghanistan.
The former foreign secretary of Britain proposed to hand over the substantial responsibility for building a political solution of the situation in Afghanistan to the United Nations. He said that the new strategy should be headed by a Muslim mediator who should be capable of negotiating with the Taliban as well as UN partners throughout the region.Miliband’s intervention has come in a time when senior NATO military figures in Afghanistan have predicted a rough summer of fighting ahead.Milibands criticism of the US-led campaign also marked a change from the supportive UK-US relationship he maintained as foreign secretary.
