Ghani said that Daesh is not an Afghan phenomenon and its roots do not exist in Afghanistan.

KABUL (Web Desk) - Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday has said that Daesh will be buried and will meet its logical end.

While giving an interview to BBC in Davos, he said that the Daesh is not an Afghan phenomenon and its roots do not exist in Afghanistan.

He was of the view that the Afghan people have alienated themselves from the organization due to their brutality and atrocities.

"Afghans are now motivated by revenge," he said. "They [IS] have confronted the wrong people."

While talking about peace talks with the Taliban, he warned that if the negotiations do not start till April then the conflict will intensify, with consequences across the region.

"Time is not a friend," he said. "We all understand that February and March are crucial."

Pakistan hosted the first formal talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government in July 2015 but a second round was canceled after it emerged that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Mullah, who sanctioned the talks, had been dead for two years.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have since deteriorated amid an upswing in fighting between the Taliban and Afghan forces.

Afghan Taliban on Saturday stated that they wanted to be removed from a U.N. blacklist before considering rejoining peace talks aimed at ending a 15-year civil war, a senior member said, as its political wing met activists at an unofficial forum in Qatar.
