India: Countrywide strike against increase in petroleum prices

A major countrywide strike will be held tomorrow in India against the increase in petroleum prices.The price of petrol has risen up to 53 rupees per liter after a 5% increase was approved by the Indian Parliament, which was protested by the opposition parties but the government is determined on not rolling back the fuel price. Opposition leader L K Advani has said that inflation will reach sky-high due to this increase in petroleum prices. Rallies will also be taken out tomorrow as a part of this strike and L K Advani will chair the rally in New Delhi.Petrol in India being sold at Rs 106 per litre: PirzadaDirector World Affairs Dunya News and senior analyst Moeed Pirzada said that National Democratic Alliance which is also called Bhartia Janta Party, has called the strike. L.K. Advani who heads BJPs Parliamentary Board and National Democratic Alliance, is leading this strike. This strike is very important in the sense that several parties are participating in it. Petrol is being sold at Rs 106 per litre as compared to Pakistan and if the prices further rise, this will reach to Rs 112 per litre. Opposition parties are of the view that Congress Party is very self-centered. So, this strike is unique.
