At least three Al Qaeda militants were killed in US drone attack in southern Yemen.

Yemeni security officials say a US drone airstrike has killed three Al Qaeda militants in a southern town.

They said one was a leading Al Qaeda Yemeni operative. Tribesmen in the area said the bodies of the three were charred from the Thursday attack on Radda in Bayda province.

Security officials in the capital Sanaa said during 2012, U.S. drones carried out at least 25 airstrikes in different parts of Yemen, leaving at least 128 Al Qaeda operatives and 15 civilians dead.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.

Yemen s government, aided by the U.S., has waged a campaign on Al Qaeda in the country s south.

The U.S. rarely comments on its role in Yemen but has admitted targeting Al Qaeda militants in the past.
