Scientists develop anti-microbial lipstick from cranberry

(Web Desk) - A unique technique for producing antimicrobial lipstick using cranberry extract has been developed by researchers in Spain.

In samples that contained cranberry extract added to cream lipstick foundation, researchers Alberto Tuon-Molina, Alba Cano-Vicent, and ngel Serrano-Aroca reported in ASC Applied Materials & Interface that they were able to minimize microbe colonies. The Valencia Catholic University

Saint Vincent Martyr and the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation provided funding for their research.

“The race to develop materials that could help limit or minimize the spread of SARS-CoV-2 has sped up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria and fungi are now posing a severe threat,” the report’s authors stated. In this study, we created a brand-new, biodegradable lipstick with cranberry extract, which has the power to kill a variety of germs.

The research revealed that test samples containing cranberry extract significantly inhibited the formation of bacterial and fungal colonies.

In the current COVID-19 pandemic and microbial-resistant period, “The proposed antimicrobial lipstick offers a new kind of protection against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, bacteria, and fungi,” the paper stated.
