Man buys buffalo out of affection for ex-PM
A total of eight buffaloes were auctioned off for nearly 2.3 million rupees.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supporters of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif flocked to a buffaloes auction Thursday to purchase what they said was a “memory” tied to the deposed leader.
The auction is part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government’s hugely publicised austerity campaign which aims to cut expenditure and increase revenue collection.
A total of eight buffaloes, purchased in 2014 by the then Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, were auctioned off for nearly 2.3 million rupees at the Prime Minister’s Office.
“I bought a buffalo for 300,000 rupees, which is three times higher than the market price. But I am happy because it’s a memory tied to my leader Nawaz Sharif,” said Malik Tayyib Nawaz.
The government earlier auctioned off dozens of luxury vehicles belonging to the PM House and also launched a crowdfunding campaign to build Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmend dams.
