Man addicted to consuming sand in India's Uttar Pradesh
The man named Hans Raj is called 'Sandman' by the locals.
UTTAR PRADESH (Web Desk) – In what can be termed as a bizarre habit, a 45-year-old man in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is addicted to eating an entire plate of sand.
The man named Hans Raj is called ‘Sandman’ by the locals.
He started eating sand from the age of 20 years which developed into a habit eventually.

Hans Raj claims that the he has never suffered any health complications from the strange diet.
“I have been eating bricks and rocks for around 25 years now. I love eating them. I don t think they have been any harmful effects on me,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.
“I started at a young age. Now it feels like all this is very normal to me. In my opinion, minerals in sand give me energy, as do bits of masonry,” explained Hans Raj.
“I have suffered no problems in stomach and mouth. My teeth are absolutely fine. I can bite into the hardest stone without a problem,” he added.
However, doctors say that he may be going through a disease called Pica, an eating disorder that is characterized by the desire to eat items with little or no nutritional value.

These can include stones, sand, paint and dirt.
