ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan was steadily advancing toward becoming a leading country in modern technology, describing the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026 as a significant milestone in positioning the country at the forefront of 21st-century technological innovation.
Addressing the expo, the prime minister said robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and drone technology would strengthen the economy, enhance national security, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
He added that Pakistan had also hosted the Indus AI Summit earlier this year, reflecting the government's commitment to promoting emerging technologies.
Shehbaz Sharif said technologies that were once considered futuristic have now become a reality, with machines capable of making decisions and executing tasks independently.
He noted that Pakistan has achieved more than 60 percent local production of drones and has made notable progress in the field of advanced technologies.

The prime minister also said that under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the armed forces had effectively integrated modern technologies.
He said autonomous systems and cybersecurity capabilities played an important role in defending the country's borders during Marka-e-Haq.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to employ advanced technologies to safeguard its sovereignty and announced that the government would introduce clear legislation and a comprehensive regulatory framework to promote autonomous capabilities in the defence sector.

Speaking at the event, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said Pakistan, under the prime minister's leadership, has adopted a clear path toward digital transformation and is moving toward developing a complete value chain in robotics and artificial intelligence.
She announced that the prime minister had inaugurated an AI-powered Prime Minister's Office system, describing it as a major step toward transforming governance through technology.
