(Web Desk) - Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is all set to introduce a new feature that will help users verify the authenticity of images they receive, making it easier to identify misleading or fake content.

Now you can search any image you receive, whether from friends or forwarded messages, directly on the web to verify its authenticity.

Users can upload the image to Google that will enable them to find similar images or related sources online for quick verification without getting deceived by fake images.

Meta aims to combat mis/disinformation and fake news with this new feature. This feature is the need of the hour as fake news and misinformation are prevalent with the introduction of AI tools accessible to everyone.

WhatsApp assures that user privacy will be maintained as the images will remain private and secure, with no storage or processing by WhatsApp itself.

Currently, this feature is only available to users of beta for Android 2.24.21.31 update, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

WhatsApp is also developing a feature to verify links in frequently forwarded messages, further improving its efforts to combat misinformation.
