These updates, announced on Tuesday, include innovative ways for users to customize their accounts, marking a strategic move by Snapchat to distinguish itself in the competitive social media landscape and attract more subscribers to its premium service, currently utilized by 9 million people.
Create Virtual House
One of the standout features is the ability for Snapchat+ users to design personalized houses on Snap Map.
This feature allows users to customize their virtual houses with various styles and colours, from realistic abodes to whimsical castles.
The houses will be visible to friends with whom users share their location, providing a unique twist to location-based services like Apple’s Find My and Life360.
Introduce your Pet
Snapchat+ subscribers can now include their pets alongside their Bitmoji in chats, expanding on the previous capability of displaying pets on Snap Map. This enhancement allows users to have their furry companions virtually accompany them throughout the app.
Short-duration content
Snapchat is also introducing a new feature enabling lightning-quick Snaps, where subscribers can send or post content lasting just .10, .20, or .50 seconds.
This builds on Snapchat's legacy of popularizing short-form, bite-sized content, offering users more flexibility and creativity in their interactions.
Live Mirror
For standard users, Snapchat is rolling out a "live mirror" feature within its Bitmoji Builder interface. This tool leverages AI to simplify the process of creating Bitmoji characters by automatically matching facial features observed through the camera’s viewfinder, streamlining the personalization experience.
The company also highlighted advancements in its AI-powered Lenses, such as a feature that allows users to revisit their childhood selves, showcasing Snapchat's ongoing commitment to innovation in augmented reality experiences.
